Below are five facts Columbia fans should know heading into the contest.
#1 | TEAM STATUS
This past Tuesday, the Lions played their final non-conference game of the season against La Salle. Sophomore Ryan Wallace's first goal in Columbia blue put the Lions on top in the 25th minute, cleaning up a rebound off a free kick from Blake Willis. Columbia held that lead at halftime but would go on to surrender four second-half tallies to the Explorers.
Columbia has taken a point in two of its last three Ivy League matches. The Lions managed to salvage a draw, 1-1, after going down to 10 men and giving up a 90th-minute equalizer last Saturday night at Dartmouth. First-year Adrien Wheaton-Schopp scored his first collegiate goal in the 38th minute to put Columbia ahead. Ryan Kipness tallied his second assist of the year on Wheaton-Schopp's goal.
Saturday marks the second of three straight contests in which the Lions play at home. Columbia will not leave the state of New York for a match the rest of the season and wraps up the home schedule the next Saturday against Harvard. The match against the Crimson will serve as Senior Day with a scheduled 8 p.m. kickoff. Seniors Blake Willis, Andrew Stevens, Sebastian Gunbeyi and Will Todd will all be honored prior to the start of next Saturday's home finale.
On the season as a whole. Columbia only left the Empire State twice to compete, which were two straight Ivy matches at Princeton and Dartmouth. Fourteen of the team's 16 matches this season were played in New York State.
