Columbia Cross Country is back in the Bronx and running the historic Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m.
BRONX, N.Y. — Columbia Cross Country will, for the first time in 685 days, run on historic Van Cortlandt Park as the Lions head to the Bronx to take part in the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships set to get going at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8.
Columbia's women will get it started with an 5K at 11 a.m., and the Lion men will take the course for a 5-Mile Run at approximately 11:30 a.m.
The last time Columbia took part in the Mets Cross Country Championships was on Oct. 11, 2019, where only the women ran the race. Nonetheless it was a strong showing for the Lions as the then-ranked No. 24 Lion women collected third-place finish overall as Sofia Camacho took first overall with a 5K time of 18:19.1.
LAST TIME OUT: Columbia last took part in the heavily competitive Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Sept. 24 in Boston, Massachusetts. Both the men and the women had strong showings, finishing inside the top 10 overall, with the Lion women collecting a sixth-place finish and the Columbia men finishing ninth overall.
Individually, a pair of Lions had great days as on the women's side Phoebe Anderson finished fourth and on the men's side David Vorbach crossed the line in eighth place. Anderson, running a 5K in her first collegiate race, crossed the line in 17:14, while Vorbach ran a career-best 24:16 in the 8K.
