HAMILTON, N.Y. — Colgate shot 58.1 percent from 3-point range and received 26 points from Nelly Cummings to earn an 89-61 win over the Columbia men's basketball team Monday night.
Zavian McLean notched a career-high 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting for the Lions (3-7).
Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Monday's game marked the first time a player besides Rubio De La Rosa or
Liam Murphy led the team in scoring.
Columbia found themselves in a 20-2 hole after Jeff Woodward converted a layup on the fast break with 13:55 left in the opening frame. Murphy started to heat up with a pair of 3-pointers and McLean provided a spark off the bench with nine points in the period to pull the Lions with 25-17 at the 7:46 mark.
However, the Raiders (4-6) answered with four triples during a 12-1 outburst to restore a comfortable margin and led 45-23 at halftime.
The Lions committed 14 first half turnovers, which led to 22 points for Colgate.
In the second half, Colgate shot a blistering 10-of-13 from beyond the arc and never let Columbia get back into the contest.
The Lions will remain on the road to take on UAlbany on Saturday, December 11 for a 7 p.m. contest. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
