Anderson And Vorbach Power Columbia At Coast-To-Coast Battle In Beantown

Columbia Cross Country's women finished sixth and the men finished ninth overall in the tough race up in Boston.
BOSTON — Among some tough competition, Columbia Cross Country put together a top performance, with the women finishing sixth and the men finishing ninth, to go along with a pair of Lions finishing inside the top 10, as Phoebe Anderson finished fourth and David Vorbach finished eighth overall at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown at Franklin Park on Friday, Sept. 24.
Overall, the women had three top 30 finishes and the men had a pair of top 50 finishes in their first real test of the 2021 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN): Finishing sixth in the competition, Columbia's near top five finish was powered by Anderson's outstanding performance in the 5K. Her first collegiate action, the Lion first-year finished 22 seconds of the top finisher and kept a 5:33 pace throughout the race.
Columbia's next three women finished inside the top 40, as Nicole Vanasse crossed the line in 24th (17:39), Sofia Matson finished 26th (17:43) and Linnaea Kavulich finished 37th (18:02) rounding out the top Lion performances.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN): In what was his second straight top 10 finish of the season, Vorbach led the Columbia men with his eighth-place finish, clocking an 8K time of 24:16 against some of the best runners in the country. His top 10 comes off his sixth-place finish at the Stony Brook Invite (Sept. 24) where he clocked a 6K time of 19:26.
Rounding out the Columbia men, was Jack Bennett, who finished in 47th with a time of 25:15 and Anish Nanjappa, who crossed the line in 54th with a time of 25:24
