Myklebust Scores Third Goal of the Season as Lions Lose to Cornell in Ivy League Home Opener

Lions outshoot the Big Red 13-11
NEW YORK – Columbia field hockey (2-6, 0-2) battled Cornell (5-3, 2-0) in the Ivy League home opener on Saturday morning for the first of two games at Baker Athletics Complex this weekend for the Lions. Columbia fell to the Big Red 3-1.
The scoreboard does not tell the whole story of the game. The stats were evenly matched across the board. The Lions let off 13 shots, while holding the Big Red to 11. Columbia had five shots on goal, while Cornell had six. The Lions had eight penalty corners to Cornell's seven.
Cornell broke through nearly 10 minutes into the contest, scoring on a rebounded save from Katie Wimmer. MK Myklebust and Meg Bowen both had shots that were blocked before the break. The Lions defense maintained a shutout in the second quarter. Columbia went into halftime down by one.
The Lions recorded five shots in the third quarter before Cornell got its second goal of the day. Isabella Palde added the insurance for the Big Red with a backhand shot into the top right corner.
A third goal in the fourth quarter from Cornell all but sealed the victory. The Lions got one back with less than a minute left to play. MK Myklebust received a pass from Sophie Rockefeller and beat the Big Red keeper low.
Up Next, Columbia is back on the field tomorrow, hosting Delaware at 1:00 p.m.
