Wrestling Heads to Iowa for Soldier Salute Tournament

The Lions head to Iowa after wrapping up the Christmas break

CORALVILLE, IOWA – Columbia wrestling will hit the road following Christmas break to compete in the inaugural Soldier Salute tournament at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa from Dec. 29-30.
 
HOW TO WATCH/FOLLOW
 
The tournament will be streamed on BTN+. Updates will also be provided through the Columbia Wrestling Twitter account (@CULionsWR).
 
THE FIELD
 
The Lions are a part of 13 teams competing in the inaugural Soldier Salute tournament. Columbia will be joined by The Citadel, Virginia Military Institute, Army, Navy, Iowa, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Bellarmine, South Dakota State, Wyoming and Minnesota.
 
RANKED LIONS
 
Matt Kazimir, Cesar Alvan and Joshua Ogunsanya have earned rankings from FloWrestling and InterMat this season. Kazimir is ranked No. 26 by InterMat and honorable mention by FloWrestling at 141 pounds. Alvan is No. 24 on the FloWrestling list and No. 33 on the InterMat list at 157 pounds. Ogunsanya comes in at No. 24 in the FloWrestling rankings and No. 17 in the InterMat rankings at 165 pounds.
 
Angelo Rini (133) and Lennox Wolak (174) were listed as honorable mention by FloWrestling.
 
LIONS IN THE SOLDIER SALUTE
 
Nick Babin (125), Rini (133), Kazimir (141), Danny Fongaro (149), Alvan (157), Ogunsanya (165), Wolak (174), Jack Wehmeyer (184), Javen Jovero (197) and Danny Conley (285) will be representing Columbia in the Soldier Salute.
 
Boris Witmer (133), Kenny Duschek (141), Richard Fedalen (149), Andrew Garr (157), Nick Fine (174) and Kyle Mosher (174) will be participating as non-scorers.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
Babin, Kazimir, Alvan and Wolak all notched wins in the dual match against Pittsburgh. The Lions came up just short in a 19-18 loss to the Panthers.
 
Babin knocked off No. 30 Colton Camacho in a 4-2 decision at 125. Kazimir then won on a forfeit at 141.
 
Alvan found himself down 14-1 in the third period of the 157 mtachup before he battled back to pin No. 21 Dazjon Casto. Wolak secured the last Columbia win of the match at 174 as he secured a 3-2 decision against No. 33 Luca Augustine.
