Nick Fine Remains in Consolation Bracket at NCAA Wrestling Championships

Fine goes 1-1 in opening day at Wells Fargo Arena

PHILADELPHIA – Twentieth-seeded Nick Fine won in his opening match and went 1-1 overall on Thursday to earn a spot in the 184-consolation bracket Friday at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Lorenzo Frezza, Richard Fedalen, Cesar Alvan, and Jack McGill saw their tournament run end after going 0-2.

Fine's strong afternoon started with a convincing win over No. 13 Evan Bockman of Iowa State. Fine jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first period thanks to a takedown and a near fall. The one-sided bout continued into the third period when Fine won by a fall late in the third period.

In the championship round two, Fine squared off against No. 4 Dustin Plott of Oklahoma State. Plott scored early on a 3-point takedown and a 2-point reversal. Fine scored a pair of points but fell to Plott via a 12-2 major decision. Fine will face Oregon State's TJ McDonnell tomorrow.
