NEW YORK — The indoor track and field team began its 2022-23 campaign this weekend, starting with the Rutgers Holiday Classic on Friday afternoon at the Armory. Then on Saturday, the Lions sent student-athletes to various competitions including the Crowell Open hosted by Army West Point and the Sharonn Colvear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University.
Columbia had many great performances in West Point on Friday to kick off the season.
Juan Zarate-Sanchez won the men's one-mile race with a time of 4:25.20. Meanwhile,
Rory Clare took home first place inn the women's one-mile, clocking in at 5:07.25.
Sydney Goldson also had a solid weekend, taking first place in the 400m run with a time of 56.62.
In the field events,
Julia Jordahl-Henry was victorious in the women's high jump with a 1.75m jump.
Meanwhile, the women's team emerged victorious in the 4x400mR.
On Saturday,
Tyler Berg traveled to Boston for the Sharonn Colvear-Danville Season Opener, and set a new school record in the 5k run with a time of 13:41.
At the Crowell Open,
Tiffany Bautista won the women's pentathlon with a score of 3191. She came out victorious in the 60m hurdles, shot put, long jump, and high jump with marks of 9.66, 9.37, 5.31, and 1.71, respectively.
ON DECK: The Lions will be back at it in a week, traveling to Connecticut for the Yale Season opener on Saturday, December 10 at 9:30 a.m.
