Alexis Florio and sophomore
Allison Paik led Columbia Women's Golf team to a 12th place finish following three rounds at the highly competitive Columbia Classic Presented by Moon Golf, Monday at Duran Golf Club. The 80-player field faced difficult weather conditions in Monday's final round with wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour.
"It was a great weekend of competition to start off the 2022 spring season," Columbia Head Coach
Amy Weeks said. "We are really proud to host such an outstanding group of teams in an amazing setting. We want to again thank MoonGolf for their support of women's collegiate golf."
Florio finished the tournament in 48
th place at 19-over-par 79-73-83-235. In Sunday's second round, Florio moved up 22 spots in the standings as she fired a one-over-par 73. She concluded the tourney with five birdies, including three in the second round (back-to-back on holes 8 and 9.
Paik came on strong on Monday as she carded a Columbia-low 78. She finished the weekend in 52
nd place at 20-over-par 79-79-78-236. On Monday, Paik carded 12 pars.
Senior
Jennifer Wang (80-79-159) and first-year
Paige Harrison (76-83-159) both tied for 60
th place at 24-over par. Wang and Harrison both finished the weekend with two birdies. Early in the first round. First-year
Taylor Zeng finished in 66
th place at 26-over-par 80-80-82-242 to round out the Columbia scorers. Junior
Annie Sun (76
th place, +37, 84-82-87-253) and junior
Christine Shao (77
th place, +39, 85-85-86-255) both competed as individuals for the Lions.
The entire field competed in an invitational for the first time this spring. On Friday, Columbia went through a full 18-hole practice round in perfect conditions. All participants were treated with a $150 shopping spree at tournament sponsor Moon Golf.
No. 26 ranked Virginia Tech came away as the team champion after combining for a 16-over-par 289-293-298-880. The Hokies defeated second place and No. 30 ranked Texas Tech (+17, 289-291-301-881) by one stroke. The two teams entered the last two holes battling for the top spot. No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State finished third at 20-over-par, Illinois took fourth at 22-over-par, and Georgia finished in fifth place at 24-over-par.
Oklahoma State's Isabella Fierro won the individual title after carding a two-under-par 70-72-72-214. She began the day in second place. Virginia Tech's Becca DiNunzio (Even) and Texas Tech's Amy Taylor (Even) both finished in second place.

The highly competitive 15-team field includes three schools apiece from the Big 12 and Big 10 Conferences, one Southeastern Conference school, one Atlantic Coast Conference team, and four Ivy League schools. The field includes golfers representing UAlbany, Boston U., host Columbia, Dartmouth, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa State, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Princeton, Purdue, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Virginia Tech, and Yale. As many as eight schools are currently ranked among the nation's top-50 college golf programs.
