PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The No. 3/2 ranked Columbia Fencing teams will travel to Providence, R.I. this weekend to compete in the 2022 Ivy League Fencing Round-Robin Championships, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Olney-Margolies Athletic Center.
Each of the teams will fence in dual matches against each of the other squads. The team or teams with the best record will emerge as Ivy League champions. Action gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. For more information on the 2022 Ivy League Round-Robins and a tournament central website,

Columbia enters the weekend ranked No. 2 nationally in men's fencing and No. 3 in women's fencing in the US Fencing Midseason poll Eleven Ivy League programs—six women's and all five men's—are listed in the top-11 of the poll. On the women's side, Princeton is No. 1, Columbia is No. 3, Cornell is No. 4, Harvard is No. 5, Yale is No. 10, and Penn is No. 11. In men's, Columbia is No. 2, Harvard is No. 4, Princeton is No. 7, Penn is No. 8, and Yale is No. 11.
Historically, Columbia tops the Ivy League in most combined team titles (53), most men's team titles (40) and most women's team titles (13) in 90 total years of competition. Columbia has won six of the last seven League titles on the men's side and has captured five of the last six Ivy League titles and three consecutive outright championships on the women's side. Michael Aufrichtig has guided Columbia to 11 overall titles (six men's and five women's). In addition, 82 athletes have earned All-Ivy League honors under Aufrichtig.

In 2019-20, the Ivy League's previous fencing championship, Columbia claimed the outright Ivy League dual championship with a perfect 6-0 record in the women's competition and placed second in the men's competition (4-1). Aufrichtig earned Ivy League Women's Coach of the Year honors, while eight Columbia fencers garnered All-Ivy League honors. Earning First Team All-Ivy League honors included

Maria Chart (women's saber), and
Ester Schreiber (women's foil). Taking home Second Team All-Ivy League honors were
Josef Cohen (men's saber),
Sidarth Kumbla (men's foil),
Daniella Timofeyev (women's saber), and
Natalie Minarik (women's foil). Six of those eight fencers return this year.
Columbia enters the weekend with a 42-8-1 combined dual match record in 2021-22. Columbia's women are 22-3-1, while the men own a 20-5 dual match record.
Following the Ivy League Championships, Columbia returns home to host the George Kolombatovich Memorial Meet on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Dodge Fitness Center. The Lions will take on NYU, Sacred Heart and Vassar at two locations in Dodge Fitness Center including the University Gymnasium "Blue Gym" and the Columbia Fencing Room.
