No. 38 Lions Travel to Michigan for Two Weekend Matches

Lions to take on No. 55 Michigan State on Saturday and No. 32 Michigan on Sunday.
EAST LANSING, Mich./ANN-ARBOR, Mich.—The No. 38 ranked Columbia Women's Tennis team will travel to Michigan this weekend for two matches against nationally ranked teams. On Saturday, Columbia will face No. 55 Michigan State in East Lansing at 11 a.m., then takes on No. 32 Michigan on Sunday at noon.
In the latest ITATennis national rankings, Columbia moved from No. 43 to No. 38. The Lions enter the weekend with a 9-3 overall record. Columbia will play its third and fourth consecutive nationally ranked opponents.
Columbia has three players with 10 or more singles wins: Anna Zhang (11 wins), Michelle Xu (10), Jennifer Kerr (10). Other players with nine wins include Akanksha Bhan, Julia Haynes, Clariine Lerby, and Melissa Sakar. Bhan ranks as the No. 121 singles player nationally. In doubles, Bhan and Zhang have seven wins and Kerr and Shivani Amineni have six.
Michigan State is 8-2 overall in dual matches. The Spartans have won eight of their last nine matches, while Ayshe Can and Charlotte Gisclon both have 10 singles wins.
Michigan enters the weekend with a 5-4 overall team record. The Wolverines have three players ranked among the nation's top singles players: Jaedan Brown (17-10), who is ranked No. 61, Andrea Cerdan (15-7), who is ranked No. 76, and Nicole Hammond (16-6), who ranks as the No. 93 singles player.
