Lions Open Spring at Doc Hosea Invitational

Three Lions boats advance to finals; finals races canceled due to inclement weather.
CHERRY HILL, N.J.—Columbia Women's Rowing opened its 2022 spring season at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Sunday held at Cooper River, site of the upcoming 2022 Ivy League Championships in May. The Lions took part in five races before the finals were canceled after the morning heats due to heavy wind and inclement weather. Complete and final results are posted at this link.
In the weather-shortened regatta, Columbia's advanced to the finals in three events: First Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4, and Third Varsity Eight.
In the First Varsity 4 race, Columbia's consisting of Isobel Wilson, Lauren Arrington, Katie Taylor, and Ishara Abbey won their heat in 7:31.24. The Lions' performance was good enough to advance to the finals and rank as the second-best time in a field of 16 boats, just four seconds behind Penn (7:27.01).
Columbia won its Third Varsity 8 heat with a 7:03.11 time, the field's second-best time. The Third Varsity 8 boat consisted of bow Nicole Harr, Sophie DiPietro, Jessica Varakuta, Ashleigh Lackey, Kira Junge, Elizabeth Quinn, Paige Bryant, Isabelle Busch, and coxswain Victoria Fu.
Columbia took second place in its Second Varsity 4 heat with a time of 7:55.59 behind Navy. The Lions' time marked the sixth-best time in the field and advanced it into a six-boat final. Competing for the Second Varsity 4 were Georgina Seal, Celeste Funari-Muse, Katie Duff, and Gabriella Sullivan.
Columbia's First Varsity 8 placed fourth in its heat with a 6:47.72 time and Columbia's Second Varsity 8 took sixth in its heat in 7:06.15.
Up next, Columbia's women will host the Connell Cup as part of Columbia's National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational on Saturday at Overpeck Park. The races begin at 8 a.m.
