Columbia faces LIU at 1:00 p.m. on Friday
NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey will begin its 2022 campaign on Friday, September 2, against crosstown rival LIU. First whistle is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Baker Athletics Complex.
Fans can catch all the action live on ESPN+ or through live stats on GoColumbiaLions.com.
Columbia looks to improve upon an impressive 2021 campaign in which the Lions produced the best start (6-0) in program history under alumni head coach Katie DeSandis.
Integral to the Lions' success will be junior captain Maya Walker. Last season, Walker earned Second Team All-Ivy League accolades and Second Team NFHCA All-Mid East Region recognition.
During the off-season, DeSandis, and assistant coaches Kristen O'Rourke and Remy Mason, welcomed four new Lions. The group consists of state champions, NFHCA scholars of distinction, and a USA Field Hockey junior national camp participant.
THE OPPONENT: LIU enters Friday at 0-2 on the year after falling to Villanova (1-5) and UMass Lowell (0-3) in non-conference play.
The Sharks' lone goal was scored by redshirt freshman Jules Kuzmich. On the opposite end of the pitch, senior goalkeeper Maggie Streichert has played all 120 minutes in goal, recording 16 saves through two contests.
Columbia and LIU last met on September 10, 2021, in a 3-1 Lions' victory. The Lions' three goals were recorded by returners Anabelle Brodeur, Ellie Decker, and Elizabeth Brissette.
