Lions Win Six Events at Rutgers Holiday Classic

Lions kick things off at the Rutgers Holiday Classic on Friday morning
NEW YORK — The Columbia track & field team began its indoor season on Friday morning at the Rutgers Holiday Classic at the Armory. The Lions had a really successful start to the year, winning six events in a competitive field.
Columbia's distance runners had a fantastic day, as the Lions came out victorious in both mile races and both 3000m races. Lucy Henkel won the women's mile with a time of 4:56.53, while Caleb Gartner won the men's mile with a time of 4:11.69. Rory Clare won the women's 3000m run with a time of 9:51.78, while Michael Danzi won the men's 3000m with a time of 8:10.08.
The women's distance medley relay team had a great debut, coming in first place. Camylin Blake, Olivia Schmitt, Kali Long, and Henkel clocked in with a time of 12:08.20 to finish off the the meet with a victory.
The Lions also fared well in field events, with Yoosang Kim winning the men's shot put with a mark of 17.02m. Jada Mia Puryear came in third in the women's shot put with a mark of 13.34m.
In addition, Norina Khanzada took second in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.65m, while Joshua Adams placed third in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.92m.

Next weekend, the Lions will race at the Yale Season Opener on Saturday in New Haven. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
