CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lions won the last four bouts of the dual match against Harvard on Friday night at the Malkin Athletic Center, but that was not enough to complete the comeback as Columbia lost a tight 18-17 match to the Crimson. The Lions drop to 4-7 overall and 4-3 in conference dual matches this season.
Harvard jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead as the Crimson earned decision wins in the first two bouts. Starting at 174, No. 28
Lennox Wolak lost a 12-5 decision to Phil Conigliaro.
Aaron Ayzerov then dropped a 7-5 decision to Leo Tarantino.
Columbia responded in the 197 bout as
Jack Wehmeyer posted a 10-1 major decision win against Michael Doggett. The win marked back-to-back victories for the first-year and earned important bonus points for the Lions.
The Crimson responded back by winning the next three bouts to further extend the lead.
Billy McChesney was defeated by Yaraslau Slavikouski in a 7-1 decision at 285. No. 25
Nick Babin then lost a tight 3-2 decision to Diego Sotelo at 125. Dante Frinzi won by fall over No. 28
Angelo Rini to give Harvard a 18-4 advantage.
The Lions won the last four bouts of the match, but came up just short in the loss. No. 25
Matt Kazimir defeated Joe Cangro in a 10-2 major decision at 141.
Danny Fongaro then earned a 7-5 decision against Jack Crook at 149. No. 23
Cesar Alvan followed that up with a 5-2 decision over Trevor Tarsi in the 157 bout. No. 16
Joshua Ogunsanya wrapped up the match with a 3-2 decision win against Josh Kim.
