LAST TIME OUT
The Lions closed out their 2023 regular season by competing in the BU Valentine Invitational in Boston two weeks ago. In what was a historic showing at the prestigious meet, Columbia shattered four, long-standing program records.
The first came on day one, when Victoria Patterson clocked in with a time of 9:02.24 in the 3k run to set a new Columbia record.
Then, on day two, Chris Balthazar broke the program's record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.83 to finish third in the event, which was the team's highest finish in the competition. Tyler Berg followed that up just a little while later with a record-breaking time of 7:54.55 in the 3000 run.
Additionally, Columbia's 4x400 meter relay squad consisting of Matthew Mazero, Devon Davey, Max Comfere, and Haydn Brotschi set a new record in the event, finishing with a time of 3:14.19.
RETURNING CHAMPION
At last year's Ivy Championships, the Lions won two championships.
Columbia's women's DMR squad, consisting of Phoebe Anderson, Kimmi Woods, Seneca Willen and Nikki Vanasse, ran a strong race to take the title, Columbia's first of the weekend. All four. women will be back for another go around at the 2023 championships.
They were joined by Juan Zarate-Sanchez, Solomon Fountain, Justin O'Toole and Michael Danzi, who made up Columbia's men's 4x800m relay squad that also ran a solid race to bring home the title in one of Columbia's historically strong events. All but Fountain will be back and looking to repeat this year.
