Carty will serve as a pitching coach
CARY, N.C. — Columbia baseball pitching coach Tom Carty has been named to the USA Baseball 2023 16U/17U National Team Development Program staff.
The event will run from July 26-29 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Team USA alum and former Major League Baseball pitcher Brad Penny will serve as the pitching coordinator for the event.
Carty arrived at Columbia last summer after spending six years at LIU where he served as pitching coach. He will serve as the pitching coach for Team White during the NTDP.
"I'm excited to work with USA Baseball and participate as a coach in the NTDP," Carty said. "The opportunity to work with top players from around the country while learning from the other coaches and quality baseball people involved with USA Baseball is an honor for any coach. I'm thankful for Coach Boretti, Tischler, and Kyle for their support in my efforts to improve as a coach."
The NTDP, which features a 72-man roster, will include four days of games and workouts, skill development sessions, off-field educational seminars, and exposure to professional scouts, college recruiters, USA Baseball staff, and national team coaches. Additionally, the coaching staff will assess and evaluate players for possible future participation in USA Baseball national team programming.
