NEW YORK — Columbia cross country and Director of Cross Country/Track & Field
Daniel Ireland have announced the 2023 cross country schedule, with the season opening race set for Saturday, September 2 at Stony Brook.
The Lions look to build upon an incredibly successful 2022 season, returning three All-Ivy performers who will be ready for a run at an Ivy League crown in 2023.
Victoria Patterson returns after a 6th place finish at the Ivy League Heps, clocking in with a 6k time of 20:50.8. She is fresh off an 18th place finish at the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in June, this after ranking 41st in the NCAA at last year's NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Phoebe Anderson is back for another go-around in 2023, coming off a 2022 season in which she was named First Team All-Ivy thanks to a fifth-place finish and time of 21:08 at the Ivy League Championships. She qualified for NCAAs, where she placed 191st.
Elia Ton-That, Columbia's reigning Varsity C Rookie of the Year, is back and looks to build on a Second Team All-Ivy performance at Heps thanks to an 11th place finish and time of 21:29.70. She followed that up with a 177th place finish and time of 21:08.9 at nationals.
After the season begins with the Stony Brook Invite on September 2, the Lions will compete in the Iona Meet of Champs on Saturday, September 15.
September wraps up with a visit to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where Columbia will compete at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh. The race set to get going on Saturday, September 30 at 9:30 a.m.
The Lions close out the regular season on Friday, October 13 when they will split up the squad for the first time. The women will compete in the Nuttycombe Invite hosted by Wisconsin, with that race set to begin at 12:30 p.m. in Madison. Meanwhile, back home at Van Cortlandt Park, the men will compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships which will begin at 9:30 a.m.
This year's Ivy League Heps will be hosted by Harvard at Franklin Park in Boston. The biggest race of the season is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 28.
For the second consecutive season, the NCAA Northeast Regionals will be run at Van Cortlandt Park. The Lions will host the event which is set for 11 a.m. on Friday, November 10.
The following weekend, the University of Virginia will play host to the NCAA Championships which will be held on Saturday, November 18 at noon.
