Maodo Lo ‘16 CC Wins Gold at 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup

Lo and Team Germany go undefeated in first-ever World Cup title
MANILA, Philippines — Columbia men's basketball alumnus Maodo Lo '16CC won gold at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup with Team Germany.
Germany defeated Serbia on Sunday in the World Cup Final, 83-77, in front of 12,022 fans in the Mall of Asia Arena. Lo and Germany went a perfect 8-0 over the last two weeks to win their first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Lo played in all eight games and averaged 6.6 points and 2.5 assists over 16.3 minutes per game. He shot 44.2 percent from the field. In a second round game against Georgia, Lo went off in a 100-73 win for 18 points in the fourth quarter on 6-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Lo also poured in 20 points in Germany's 85-82 victory over Australia in the first round.
Germany leaves Manila with its second-ever World Cup medal to go with their third-place finish in 2002. Germany has qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics as the best-ranked team from Europe.
Lo played the last three seasons with Alba Berlin in the Basketball Bundesliga, which is the highest level of professional basketball in Germany. In his third season with the team over 29 games, he averaged 9.4 points and 21.7 minutes per game in 2022-23. On May 4, Lo dropped a season-high 27 points in an 83-72 victory. In July, Lo signed with Olimpia Milano from Lega Basket Serie A in Milan, Italy.
Lo started 114 games at Columbia from 2012-16, which is most all-time. He is also the program's all-time leader in three-point field goals made (277) and ranks third all-time in points (1,756). Only his Lions teammate Alex Rosenberg '16CC has appeared in more games for Columbia men's basketball.
