Zhang will compete in qualifying singles and Zhang and Wang will compete in qualifying doubles
CARY, N.C. – Anna Zhang and Sophia Wang will head to North Carolina to compete in the ITA All-American Championships starting this weekend. Zhang will get started in qualifying singles. Zhang will then team up with Wang to compete in qualifying doubles.
Zhang and Wang went 2-1 in doubles last weekend at the Cissie Leary Invite, winning both doubles matches on Friday before losing their match Saturday. Zhang was 1-1 in singles action with a win against Grace Schumaker (South Florida).
The duo posted a 2-0 weekend at the Columbia Invitational to get the fall season started earlier this month. Individually, Zhang won the only singles match she played during the Columbia Invitational.
As part of the qualifying draw for singles and doubles, Zhang and Wang will begin play on Monday once pre-qualifying has been completed. The singles qualifying is a draw of 64, while the doubles qualifying is a draw of 48. If they advance to the main draw, competition will start Wednesday.
Since 1983, the ITA Women's All-American Championships have featured the nation's top NCAA Division I players and have been a pioneer in women's college tennis. In addition, the event has created milestones that have directly influenced the popularity of women's collegiate tennis over the years.
