This year's event begins today at Princeton
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Under the direction of head diving coach Scott Donie, four Columbia divers will travel to New Jersey to compete in the 2024 NCAA Zone Diving Championship. Hosted by Princeton University, the competition will begin later today and run through Wednesday, March 13.
"Always excited to compete at the NCAA Zone meet," Donie said. "It's a real test for the divers with a strong and very deep field of athletes. Looking forward to a great experience for everyone who is fortunate enough to be here."
Columbia will compete in Zone A of this year's competition. Live results will be available via Princeton's website, HERE. A stream of the event is available via ESPN+, HERE. A manual detailing all of the meet information, such as the schedule, media information, scoring, and more, can be found HERE.
Zone A will send five women's qualifiers in each of the three events to the NCAA Championship, which is being held March 2023 in Athens, Ga. The zone will advance six men's divers in the 1m event, five in the 3m and four in platform diving to the March 27-30 NCAA Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.
Joseph Nicol will represent the men in the 1m and 3m, and he has been on a tear to close out the season. At the Ivy League Championships, Nicol made the podium on the 1m boards with an eighth place finish and score of 270.60. Against Arrmy earlier this season, he won the 3m competition for the first time in his career, and the next day against Cornell he once again won the 3m with a score of 331.88. He completed the first sweep of his career when he won the 1m dive later in the afternoon with a personal best score of 328.35. He completed his second sweep against Dartmouth to close out the regular season.
Alice Diakova (1m & 3m), Macy Pine (3m & platform), and Chloe Leung (1m & 3m) will represent the women. Diakova is fresh off being named the Career High Point Diver at the Ivy League Championships, recognizing her career-long accomplishments as a Lion. Her best placement last year came on the 3m boards with a 12th place finish. Pine is Columbia's top returning performer from 2023 zones, having finished in ninth place on the platform boards in West Virginia.
