DeSousa takes silver in compound; Gottlieb bronze in recurve
MANHEIM, Pa. — Sophomore Eunice Choi won gold in the Recurve Collegiate Female division, highlighting the Columbia archery team's performance at the 2025 Easton Youth and Collegiate Trophy Tournament. The Lions competed in their season-opening tournament on Sunday at Spooky Nook Sports.
Choi bested a field of more than 40 archers with a score of 579. She scored 10 points with 18 of her 60 arrows and hit the inner ring, worth 11 points, 12 times, the most of any archer in the division. A native of Chantilly, Virginia, Choi beat out Pikeville's Olivia Hale by six points for the gold.
Senior Judith Gottlieb was third in collegiate recurve with a total of 568, scoring 10 points with 18 of her arrows and hitting the inner ring on 10 occasions. Junior Lillian Han was fourth (559) and sophomore Michelle Ahn was fifth (557), giving the Lions four of the top five in the division.
Junior Giselle DeSousa topped all Lions with a silver medal in the Compound Collegiate Female division. She put 42 of her 60 arrows in the inner ring and totaled 636 points, improving by 20 points from her score in last year's shoot. Fellow junior Sydney Sullenberger, making her return from missing last year due to injury, took fifth in the division with a score of 628.
"This is the kind of start you want in your season," head coach Derek Davis said. "Everyone shot well and I'm very happy with the outcome for the entire team."
First-years Mia Shin, Alena Lipscomb and Briana Moore all made their collegiate debuts. Moore was sixth in compound with a score of 626. Shin was eighth in recurve (541) and Lipscomb was 10th (529). Sophomore Emily Rosenfeld was top 20 in recurve (464).
Next up for the Lions is the 2025 USA Archery Indoor Nationals. The event takes place February 22-23 in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
