HANOVER, N.H. – Columbia women's soccer dropped a tightly contested 1–0 battle on the road to Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at Burnham Field. The loss ended the Lions' six-game unbeaten streak and marked their first defeat since August, as they move to 4–5–2 overall and 2–1–0 in Ivy League play.
After an evenly played opening 45 minutes that saw few clear chances for either side and great defense, the game's only goal came in the 70th minute when Dartmouth's Nadia Young found the back of the net off an assist from Frankie Valverde. Columbia continued to fight until the final whistle, earning two late corners and testing Dartmouth's defense in the closing minutes, but couldn't find the equalizer.
The Lions' back line was once again solid, anchored by center back Justina Bitzer, who went the full 90 minutes, and goalkeeper Samantha Mahoney, who finished with one save on two shots on goal. Mahoney also made several key interventions off crosses and through balls to keep the game within reach.
Offensively, Gabby Chan led the attack with a team-high four shots and two on goal, continuing her strong run of form following last week's match-winner against Brown. Aoife Turner and Sammie Moncion each added a shot, while Columbia's midfield worked tirelessly to maintain possession and press the Big Green throughout.
Dartmouth (6–2–3, 2–0–1 Ivy) held a narrow 13–7 advantage in total shots and 4–3 in corner kicks.
Columbia's defense has not allowed more than one goal since August, spanning seven consecutive contests.
