LAST TIME OUT
The Lions dropped a tightly contested 1–0 battle on the road to Dartmouth last Saturday afternoon in New Hampshire at Burnham Field.
After an evenly played opening 45 minutes that saw few clear chances for either side and great defense, the game's only goal came in the 70th minute when Dartmouth's Nadia Young found the back of the net off an assist from Frankie Valverde. Columbia continued to fight until the final whistle, earning two late corners and testing Dartmouth's defense in the closing minutes, but couldn't find the equalizer.
The Lions' back line was once again solid, anchored by center back Justina Bitzer, who went the full 90 minutes, and goalkeeper Samantha Mahoney, who finished with one save on two shots on goal. Mahoney also made several key interventions off crosses and through balls to keep the game within reach.
SCOUTING PENN
Penn enters the weekend with a 4-3-4 overall record and an 0-2-1 mark in Ivy League play. The Quakers are coming off a 2-2 draw against NJIT, continuing a run of competitive results throughout non-conference and league play. To begin the Ivy season, Penn played to a draw against Dartmouth, and dropped contests to Brown and Princeton. The team's best win of the season came against Mount Saint Mary's, 5-0.
Now in her fourth season leading the program, head coach Dr. Krissy Turner has guided Penn to a more balanced and dynamic attack. The Quakers have scored 16 goals while allowing 15 and hold narrow advantages in both shots (129-110) and shots on goal (64-62).
The Lions have won five straight against the Quakers, with Penn's last win coming in 2018. The Quakers last victory in NYC was in 2013.
Abbey Cook leads the team with three goals, while Mia Fuss, Lauren Stevens, and Hailey Adamsky all have chipped in two goals. In net, Austen Annabel has started eight games, posting a 1.12 goals-against average with 27 saves and two wins.
