Lions break 54-hole team record
PRINCETON, N.J. — Led by first year Kristina Xu's second individual victory of the season, the Columbia women's golf team earned third place this weekend in the Princeton Invitational. The Lions carded a team score of 14-over-par 866, breaking program records for both lowest 54-hole total and lowest 54-hole score in relation to par.
Xu (-2) was co-medalist alongside two competitors from Princeton. The rookie from Claremont, California, carded rounds of 69, 72 and 70 at Springdale Golf Club's par 71, 6,086-yard layout. Saturday's first-round 69 was her lowest collegiate round to date, which included three birdies over her first five holes to go with just one bogey. Xu was 2 under par for the weekend, winning her second tournament in just four starts.
First year Camille Thai had the best tournament of her young collegiate career. A native of Los Altos, California, Thai tied for 10th at 4 over par with rounds of 74, 72 and even-par 71. It was the first top 10 of her Columbia career.
Sophomores Christine Chang (+6) and Sarah Shao (+9) earned top 20s, while first year Bridget Chantharath (+10) tied for 25th. Sophomore Emily Luo (+18) rounded out Columbia's six-player lineup.
Columbia finished among the top three on the team leaderboard for the third time in four fall tournaments. The Lions were second among the six Ivy League women's golf programs competing at Princeton this weekend, 14 shots better than Harvard (+28), 20 shots better than Penn (+34), 22 shots better than Dartmouth (+36) and well ahead of ninth-place Yale (+53). Princeton won the event on its home golf course at 1 under par.
The Princeton Invitational marked the conclusion of Columbia's fall season. The Lions return to action February 21-22, when they host the Columbia Classic at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida.
