EUGENE, Ore. — No. 11 Oregon took both games of a twinbill over the Columbia baseball team on Saturday to secure a series win. The Ducks (9-2) earned a 35-1 victory in the opener, followed by an 8-3 win in the nightcap.
Columbia (1-5) wraps up the series with Oregon on Sunday, March 2, with a single game slated to begin at 3 p.m. ET on B1G+.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Ducks took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Anthony Temesvary drove in Columbia's lone run of the game with a sac fly in the top of the second before Oregon erupted for four runs in the second and nine more in the third to put the game out of reach.
The Lions were held to just four hits in the contest and committed four errors. Thomas Santana stared and picked up the loss (0-1) after lasting 1.2 innings.
Maddox Molony hit two homers and drove in six runs off the bench, while Ryan Cooney went 4-for-4 and also plated six Ducks. Michael Meckna improved to 2-0 after entering the contest in the fifth inning. He pitched three innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit.
GAME TWO RECAP
Oregon took an early 3-0 lead after two innings in game two and extended the margin to 7-0 through six before the Lions broke through.
Columbia loaded the baes with one out for Hunter Snyder, who ripped a ground rule double to right-center to get the Lions on the board. Ben Fishel pulled Columbia within four with a sac fly before Oregon got out of the jam with a ground out.
In the top of the eighth, the Lions put a man in scoring position, but Cole Stokes came in to force a flyout to prevent Columbia from drawing closer.
Dominic Hellman went deep for a solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to cap the scoring.
Skye Selinsky was 2-for-4 and was the only Lion with multiple hits. Jagger Edwards (0-1) lasted four innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Oregon starter Collin Clarke (1-0) went 6.2 innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits with eight punchouts. Coen Niclai drove in three to pace the Ducks' offense in game two.
