Columbia Women’s Golf Battles Elements at Red Rocks Invitational

Lions finishing in 15th in 18-hole tournament
SEDONA, Ariz. — First-year Sarah Shao led the Columbia women's golf team with a 3-over 75 to finish in 42nd at the Red Rocks Invitational. The Lions finished in 15th place in the 18-hole tournament which took place at the Oakcreek Country Club.
The 54-hole tournament was limited to just one 18-hole round due to snow and rainy conditions in the area.
Shoa's 75 was a stroke better than her season average and tied for her fourth best round this season. After back-to-back bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes, Shao wrapped up the round with seven consecutive pars to finish 3-over.
Fellow first year Christine Chang finished in second for the Lions, with a 4-over-par 76. Chang's round opened with a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole. After a double bogey on 14 and a bogey on 15, she finished her round strong shooting par or better on eight consecutive holes.
Columbia (+18) finished 15th in in a 19th team field. Emma Shen and Emily Luo shot 77 and 78 respectively to finish 62nd and 71st. Yoko Tai shot a 9-over 81 to take 95th.
Grand Canyon won the team competition shooting an even par 288, one shot over tournament host Northern Arizona. The Lumberjack's Ellena Slater was the individual medalist after shooting a 3-under 69.
The Lions return to action later this month, March 28-30, at the More Than Golf Invitational at the Old Barnwell Golf Club in Aiken, S.C. The event is being hosted by The Annika Foundation.
