Selinsky is the second straight Lion to earn the honor and the third this season
PRINCETON, N.J. — After a monster week at the plate, Columbia senior outfielder Skye Selinsky has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week. He becomes the third player to earn the honor, joining Anton Lazits (April 21) and Cole Fellows (March 22).
Selinsky was a force in the Lions' 3-1 stretch, helping Columbia stay at the top of the Ivy League standings. He hit .417 (5-for-12) with a scorching 1.083 slugging percentage, launching two home runs, driving in four runs, and scoring three times. Four of his five hits went for extra bases, and he got on base 10 times in 17 plate appearances thanks to four walks and a hit-by-pitch, good for a .588 on-base percentage.
In a midweek road win at Stony Brook, he went 2-for-3 and crushed a solo homer to help hand the Seawolves their first midweek loss of the season. Selinsky followed that up with a clutch performance in game two at Penn, blasting a ninth-inning homer and driving in three runs.
Senior righthander Joe Sheets and first-year pitcher Ray Huke earned spots on the Weekly Honor Roll. Sheets tossed 6.2 innings of one-run ball in a game one victory over the Quakers on Friday. Huke picked up a nine-out save against Stony Brook last Wednesday.
Columbia closes the regular season with a three-game set at Harvard this weekend. The Lions and Crimson will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
