Baseball Preps for Home Series Against Cornell

The Lions and Big Red meet for three games and will welcome the Live Like Lou Foundation Sunday

NEW YORK — Columbia baseball (10-13, 5-1) resumes Ivy League play with a three-game set against Cornell (9-8, 4-2). Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, April 4, beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by a single-game Saturday, April 5, at 11:30 a.m.

This weekend, Columbia will welcome members of the Live Like Lou Foundation, who will present a check to ALS patient Beth Grossman and honor Cole Fellows, who was named captain of the second annual Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team. Fans in attendance for either day can receive a free Cole Fellows baseball card with information on the Live Like Lou Foundation.

All three games this weekend are being broadcast on ESPN+.

Boretti Reaches Milestone
Head coach Brett Boretti collected his 500th career win in game one at Princeton last weekend. Last season, the four-time Ivy League Coach of the Year became Columbia baseball's all-time wins leader. Boretti has the sixth-most wins among Ivy League baseball head coaches all-time.

Offensive Explosion
Once again, Columbia's offense has been one of the top in the Ivy League. The Lions lead the conference in runs per game (8.8), home runs (29) and hits (217). Individually, Sam Miller has 34 hits to lead all Ivy Leaguers, while Anton Lazits' eight dingers are tops in the Ancient Eight.

Scouting Cornell
The Big Red won the final two games of its series with Brown last weekend at Booth Field and sit one game back of the Lions for the top spot in the Ivy League standings. Ryan Porter has the second-highest batting average in the conference at .364. Carson Mayfield checks in with a 3.69 ERA and is holding batters to a .156 average, which leads the Ancient Eight.

Series History - Cornell
Columbia is 120-142 all-time against the Big Red and swept last season's series in Ithaca, New York.

Up Next
Columbia will make the short trip to the Bronx to face Fordham on Wednesday, April 9. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
