Fellows will be recognized before the April 6 game vs. Cornell
OXFORD, Ohio — Columbia baseball junior outfielder Cole Fellows has been named captain of the second annual Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team, Phi Delta Theta and the Live Like Lou Foundation announced on Wednesday.
"Being named captain of the Lou Gehrig Community Impact team is an absolute honor," Fellows said. "I most certainly could not have received this recognition without the support of my family, teammates, and coaches. It means a lot to my family and I that we can unite to fight against diseases such as Alzheimer's and ALS."
The 2025 Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team honorees were nominated by their schools, and the team was selected based on outstanding achievements in three key areas:
"Talking to Cole makes you feel as if you're the only person in the room," said Columbia baseball captain and 2024 Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team honorable mention Joe Sheets. "He embodies the true meaning of selflessness, exemplified by his unwavering commitment to his teammates and community. Cole leads by example in everything he does, approaching life with a sense of gratitude and humility."
On the field in 2024, Fellows was an All-Ivy League Honorable Mention selection after slashing .305/.374/.508 with four home runs and 31 RBIs in 41 games. He committed just one error in the field.
"I'm very excited Cole has been named captain of the Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team," head coach Brett Boretti said. "Cole is well-deserving of this honor.
Fellows will be recognized before Columbia's April 6 game against Cornell and will collaborate with Phi Delta Theta and the Live Like Lou Foundation to support a family affected by ALS in the local community.
To further Lou Gehrig's legacy and his storied baseball career that began at the collegiate level at Columbia University, Phi Delta Theta, in partnership with the Live Like Lou Foundation, introduced the Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team in 2024 to annually recognize the giving character and community impact of collegiate baseball players.
