Field Hockey Hosts Cornell on Friday to Begin Ivy League Play

The Lions open league play with the Big Red for the third straight year
NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey begins Ivy League play on Friday when the Lions host Cornell at 3 p.m. from the Columbia Field Hockey Complex.

Last Time Out
Columbia dropped its first match of the season last Sunday to Quinnipiac, 3-2. The Lions took an early 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the match when Mckenzie Bloom centered a pass to Sophia Abate, who found the back of the cage for her first goal of the season. The Bobcats then scored three straight goals to go in front by two. Izzy Kaczor scored for Columbia to get them within a goal with 2:41 remaining in the game, but the Lions fell short.
Spreading the Wealth
Columbia's 11 goals this season have come from the sticks of eight different players. Jacinta Solari Etcheberry leads the team with three goals, while Izzy Kaczor has two, and Mckenzie Bloom, Lizzie Adams, Sophia Abate, Ashley Kim, Maya Raphael, and Agustina Solari Etcheberry have all found the back of the cage once.
Houle Impresses
Goalkeeper Margot Houle has won three of her first four career starts. The sophomore from Potomac, Maryland, has recorded 22 saves and allowed just six goals this season. Houle earned her first career shutout in the season-opening upset win on Sept. 5 at No. 18 UAlbany.

Columbia is 7-21 all-time against the Big Red but snapped a four-game losing streak in the series with a 1-0 win in Ithaca, N.Y. last season.
