Lions take on the Sharks to begin spring 2026 slate
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team makes its spring home debut on Monday, hosting LIU for a dual match at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center. Monday's match against LIU is scheduled for a noon first serve.
LIVE COVERAGE
Action from the Milstein Family Tennis Center this weekend will be broadcast live through Columbia's stretch portal. Fans can also follow live scores online for both matches this weekend.
FALL RECAP
Columbia played in six fall tournaments, including a pair of home events. Combined, the Lions went 59-22 in singles play and 44-23 in doubles. Seven Lions won six or more singles matches with Emily Baek, Margaret Hui and Salma Farhat going 7-1, 7-1, and 6-1, respectively.
BACK FOR THE LIONS
Columbia returns a deep roster for the 2026 slate. Top returners include Gayathri Krishnan, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, as well as Malak El Allami, the 2025-26 ITA Northeast Region Rookie of the Year. Sophia Wang is the lone senior for the Lions this spring. She boasts 49 career singles wins and 50 career doubles wins.
NEWCOMERS
The Lions welcomed three newcomers to the squad this year, two from California and one from Texas. Margaret Hui (San Diego) and Sabrina Lin (Saratoga) are the two newcomers from California. Hui went 7-1 in singles this fall, while Lin went 2-0. Michelle Li hails from Houston, Texas. She went 6-3 in singles play in the fall.
ABOUT LIU
This will be LIU's first competition this spring; the Sharks competed in three events in the fall. Top returners for the Sharks are juniors Mia Tsoukalas and Paula Guillen. Tsoukalas went 4-4 in the fall, while Guillen went 5-3.
SERIES HISTORY
Monday will be the ninth meeting between the Lions and Sharks, with Columbia owning an 8-0 advantage in the series. The last time these two teams faced each other was on January 23, 2022, with the Lions coming out on top 6-0.
