NEW YORK, N.Y. - Head Coach Paul Fernandes has announced that 12 student athletes will join the Columbia nine for the 2005 season. Of the group, eight are pitchers and four are pure position players.
Seven different states are represented in the baseball class of 2008 with New York and Connecticut leading the way with three student athletes each.
Mike Malfettone is a third baseman/outfielder from Trumbull, Conn., while right-handed pitchers John Baumann from Westport and Ryan Nivakoff from New Canaan round out the Connecticut contingent.
John Flood is a righty from Peal River, N.Y., while Henry Perkins from Skaneateles and Bill Purdy from Bayport are both pitchers/position players from the Empire State.
Andrew Farrell is a right-hander from Milton, Mass., while Dan Neczypor is first baseman from Cambridge, Mass.
Craig Hormann is another pitcher from Indianapolis, Indiana, while Chris Hunter joins the Lions as an outfielder from Houston, Texas.
Alex Lewis rounds out the new additions to the pitching staff as a right-hander from Cincinnati, Ohio and Noah Cooper, an outfielder from Narberth, Pa., rounds out the position players.
