NEW YORK—Campbell Family Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education Peter Pilling has announced the appointment of Dr. Mark Louie '13TC, '19TC as the new Assistant Athletics Director for Championship Performance for Columbia Athletics.
"We are excited to welcome Dr. Mark Louie to the Columbia Success Through Well-Being team," Pilling said. "He will work closely with our talented student-athletes and coaches and help them reach their potential at Columbia and beyond."
Dr. Louie joins the Columbia Athletics Department after having worked in a group counseling practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in sport performance. He also worked closely with the Sport Psychologist of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets during the 2021 NBA Draft to help develop transition support and highlight potential needs for amateur players' adjustment into professional basketball. Prior to that, Dr. Louie worked with the athletics program at Rutgers in the areas of mental health and performance, as well as Rutgers' return-to-competition planning after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Louie provided counseling and mental health workshops for student-athletes and worked with coaches, athletic trainers, and strength and conditioning coaches to help them reduce burnout and build better communication skills. Dr. Louie has also worked closely with student-athletes and provided mental health support to Seton Hall University's athletics program.
"Dr. Mark Louie's integrative and holistic health approach to working with student-athletes to improve across all areas of their lives will support Columbia Athletics Success Through Well-Being's mission of empowering and supporting each student-athlete holistically: personally, academically, athletically, and professionally," said Jessica DePalo, Columbia's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Success Through Well-Being.
"He utilizes empirically supported data-driven approaches to measuring performance and success and Dr. Louie's experience will contribute to our efforts of using a data-driven approach to building a holistic and integrated model of student-athlete development."
With a doctorate in exercise physiology, and a master's degree in psychological counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University, Dr. Louie is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey. He is an active member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), and the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 47: Sport and Exercise Psychology.

A Fair Lawn, N.J. native, Dr. Louie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Rutgers University in 2011. He is a member of Sigma Lamba Beta International Fraternity, Inc.
