
Women’s Soccer Battles Hofstra to a Draw

Columbia strikes first on first career goal from Helena Andrezejewski
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Columbia women's soccer battled host Hofstra to a 1-1 draw in the Lions' 2026 opener at Captains Field on Friday afternoon.
Columbia (0-0-1) dominated possession for most of the contest, outshooting the Pride (0-1-1) 11-4, including a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. Hofstra did not record its first shot on goal until late in the second period.
The Lions controlled much of the opening half, outshooting the Pride 7-1 and earning two corner kicks. Columbia created several chances throughout the opening 45 minutes, including attempts from Maia Beltran, Nicole Kim, Evelyn Javers, Aoife Turner and Sammie Moncion.
Hofstra goalkeeper Lilly Bailey made two saves to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
Columbia broke through early in the second half. Helena Andrzejewski scored in the 50th minute, finishing a chance set up by Leila Hawkins to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Andrzejewski's goal was the first of her career.
The Lions continued to pressure Hofstra after taking the lead, but the Pride found an equalizer in the 79th minute when Alexia Bromfield scored off an assist from Alexia Des Croisselles.
Columbia had opportunities to regain the lead late, with Javers and Turner each recording shots in the final six minutes, but Hofstra goalkeeper Bailey kept the match level.

Columbia will have a quick turnaround, hosting St. John's on Sunday for the Lions' 2026 home opener. Sunday's match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
