NEW HAVEN - Yale scored six unanswered second-half goals to defeat the Lions, 12-9. Columbia, which had never lost by fewer than seven goals to Yale in nine previous meetings, led 8-6 with 27:30 left to play.
The Bulldogs (7-6, 2-3 Ivy League) had defeated nationally ranked Dartmouth earlier this season and, four days ago, lost by a single goal to eighth-ranked Princeton.
Today's game featured a series of runs for both teams. The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Holly Glynn, Elyse Pultz and Rachael Ryan each scored in the game's opening 6:18.
The Bulldogs answered with four straight goals, including three by Lauren Taylor, who finished with a game-high four scores. The Lions responded with another three consecutive goals - the latter two by Kate Lombard - as the Lions took a 6-4 advantage with 4:47 left in the first.
Neither team scored until Yale netted a goal with 17 seconds left in the half to make the score 6-5 at the break.
Carrie Anderer gave the Lions a two-goal advantage on a free-position shot 57 seconds into the second half. Yale scored 36 seconds later, but the Lions again reestablished the two-goal lead when Catherine Lee scored on Marisa Marcellino's third assist of the game at 27:55. It would be the Lions' last goal for 27 minutes and 48 seconds.

Yale tied the game at 23:33, went ahead at 19:26, and added three insurance goals in the next 18:25. Pultz broke the Lions' scoreless stint with seven seconds on the clock.
After starting Yale goalie yielded six Columbia goals without a save in the opening 25:13, Lonnie Sarnell came on to make five stops while allowing just three goals the rest of the contest. Marcela Calidonio made 12 saves for the Lions.
Columbia (5-7, 0-6 Ivy League) will need to win three of its final four games to attain the program's first .500 record.
