NEW YORK – Head women's lacrosse coach Kerri Whitaker has announced that Allison Evans will join the Columbia coaching staff for the 2009-10 campaign. The former US Elite Team member comes to Morningside Heights after spending the previous two seasons as the top assistant at her alma mater, William and Mary.
“Allison came up through a good program at William and Mary, and that helped enhance her strong leadership and organizational skills,” said Whitaker. “She is passionate about the game and is a skilled teacher. I am excited to work with Allison so that together we can build on the success of the 2009 season.”
Over the last two years, Evans has played an integral part in helping the Tribe to back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association regular season titles and top-20 national rankings. During those years, Evans worked primarily with the attacking unit, helping the Tribe establish program records for single-season goals (244) and points (347) in 2009.
"I am really excited about joining the Columbia lacrosse program," said Evans. "I look
forward to sharing my knowledge of the game with a team that continues
to make great strides towards becoming a strong force in the Ivy League."
A native of Annandale, Va., Evans graduated from William and Mary in 2003 with a degree in psychology. The midfielder was an All-Colonial Athletic Association selection in both 2002 and 2003, serving as team captain as a senior. She finished her impressive career with 85 goals and 31 assists for 116 career points. Evans led her team offensively in her final two seasons, including a career-high 52 points (33 goals and 19 assists) as a junior.
After her successful collegiate career, Evans was one of 24 players selected to the US National Elite Team in the summer of 2006.
Prior to her time at W&M, Evans worked as a financial analyst for JPI, a real estate developer in McLean Va., and was an asset analyst for the Mills Corporation in Chevy Chase, Md. Following her 2003 graduation, she coached at St. Mary's School in England and at Annandale High School, her alma mater.
