Paul Short Run Results: Men | Women | Princeton Inter-Regional Results: Men | Women
NEW YORK - Both the men's and women's cross country teams claimed third at the Princeton Inter-Regional meet on Saturday, Oct. 3, a day after the men took second at Lehigh's Paul Short Run and the women finished fifth.
Princeton Inter-Regional: Men
Men claimed third at Princeton, taking down No. 24 Providence and No. 29 North Carolina in the process. Columbia was led by a third place finish from Tait Rutherford in 24:10.8. The senior was five seconds behind Virginia Tech's Thomas Curtin, who was the runner-up behind Shaun Thompson of Duke.
Rutherford's finish was the fastest 8K of his career, topping his 24:34 from a season ago.
Jack Boyle was not far behind his teammate, clocking a 24:21.8 for 16th place overall. Sophomore Ryan Thomas followed next in 24:23.0 for 18th place, right ahead of Brian Zabilski who took 20th in 24:24.9.
Indiana was the winner on the day, taking places four, seven, nine, 13 and 14, followed by the host Princeton in second, with finishers in sixth, eighth, 11th, 21st and 24th.
Princeton Inter-Regional: Women
Natalie Tanner's breakout performance led the Columbia women to a third place finish at Princeton. The junior crossed the line in the 6K in 21:18.0, claiming 12th place as the top Lion runner.
Thanks in part to the efforts of Tanner, the women were able to best No. 18 William & Mary and No. 25 Villanova.
Seniors Olivia Sadler and Leila Mantilla, who were the top Columbia runners at the Brother Jasper Invitational, took home 17th and 18th place respectively as the next Lion finishers. Sadler kicked home to a 21:29.0 finish with Mantilla on her heels in 21:31.2.
First-year Emily Acker was next for Columbia, taking 29th in 21:48.0, while Pegah Khosravi-Kamrani finished 32nd in 21:50.3.
Paul Short Run: Men
In the Men's Brown Division 8K, Columbia bested 38 of 39 teams en route to a second place finish.
Junior Jonah Hanig led the way, claiming sixth place overall in the meet. Hanig crossed the line in 25:07, among a large group of runners. Not far behind Hanig was Jason Menzies, who was 11th in 25:09.
Marc Violone took home 14th place in 25:13, two seconds ahead of 19th place finisher Johain Ounadjela. Jack Baisley (31st/25:21), Tyler Italiano (36th/25:24) and Aidan Goltra (52nd/25:36) rounded out the Columbia runners at Lehigh.
Paul Short Run: Women
The Columbia women took home fifth at the Paul Short Run among the 45 teams in the Brown division.
Sophomores Nell Crosby and Sarah Hardie were the top two Lion finishers at Lehigh. Crosby clocked a 22:15 in the 6K for 35th, while Hardie finished in 22:26 for 46th.
