PRINCETON, N.J. – Maodo Lo had a record-breaking night, but Hans Brase's layup with 15 seconds remaining lifted Princeton to an 85-83 victory over the Columbia men's basketball team Saturday night. Lo drilled 11 3-pointers to set a new Ivy League single-game record, en route to a career-high 37 points.
The Lions (13-15, 5-9) led 83-74 with 2:08 remaining, but got to the foul line on three-straight possessions to pull within four less than a minute later. After getting another stop, the Tigers' (14-14, 8-5) Clay Wilson drilled a trey to make it a one-point game.
Columbia came up empty on its next trip down the floor and Brase spun in the lane and converted to put Princeton on top, 84-83.
A turnover by the Lions led to Wilson going to the line for two shots with two seconds on the clock. Wilson hit 1-of-2, giving Columbia one last shot.
Lo sped up the floor and lofted up a running 3-pointer as time expired that bounced off the rim twice and out to end the game.
Both offenses started the game strong and Lo knocked down a triple to make it 14-10 with 14:58 remaining in the half. The Lions continued to remain in front over the next several minutes before Hans Brase sparked an 8-0 run with a trey and old fashioned three-point play, putting the Tigers on top, 25-21, with 6:44 on the clock.
Princeton extended the lead to six a few moments later before Lo took over. The junior scored 13 of his 22 first half points in the final 4:51 to help Columbia knot the score, 38-38, at the break.
The Tigers shot 56.8 from the field and were 30-of-39 (76.9 percent) from the foul line. Columbia was 14-of-15 from the charity stripe and knocked down 13-of-23 from beyond the arc.
Cory Osetkowski and Kyle Castlin finished with 14 points, apiece. Nate Hickman added a career-high 10 points and six rebounds. Isaac Cohen had six points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Game notes: Lo's 84 made 3-pointers are the second most for a Columbia player in a single-season… Lo finished up his junior campaign with 519 points, the 10th highest single-season mark in program history.
