THE STORYLINES
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
The Lions fell at Stony Brook in their first contest of 2016. The Seawolves erased a 17-point deficit in the second half with a 26-3 run and never looked back.
MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE'S STATUS
The Hawks have fallen in three-straight and are coming off a 92-58 defeat at Pittsburgh on Jan. 2.
Devin Martin paces the offense, averaging 17.7 points. Dominique Elliott adds 12.2 points and 6.6 rebounds.
SERIES HISTORY
Columbia has won the two previous meetings against Maryland-Eastern Shore, both in lopsided fashion. The last meeting came on Nov. 9, 2013, a 73-54 Lions win in Levien Gymnasium.
COLUMBIA VS. THE MEAC
The Lions are 5-3 against teams currently in the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference. Columbia has already defeated Howard on Dec. 28. The Lions have faced North Carolina Central three times, the most of any MEAC foe (0-3).
DOUBLE (DOUBLE) THE FUN
After registering just one double-double all of 2014-15 (Jeff Coby vs. Lehigh), Columbia has two this season. Alex Rosenberg notched 10 points and 10 boards in the season opener against Kean while Luke Petrasek accomplished the feat with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Howard.
DECEMBER TO REMEMBER
Prior to Kyle Smith's arrival to Columbia, the Lions had not won six or more games in any calender month since February 1982 (8-1). With Columbia's 6-1 record in December, Smith has now accomplished the feat twice after posting a 6-1 mark in December 2011 in his first season at the helm.
