ITHACA, N.Y. - The Columbia baseball team bounced back with a 14-4 victory in game two of a doubleheader to snap a four-game losing streak. The Lions (10-19, 4-6) dropped game one, 9-3. The teams will wrap up the series tomorrow with a twinbill beginning at 12 p.m.
Will Savage legged out an infield single, stole second and, after a walk, moved to third on a sacrifice. Kyle Bartelman hit a ball behind the bag at first to drive in the opening tally.
Both teams capitalized on the others miscues to trade runs in the bottom of the second and top of the third.
Cornell worked a leadoff walk which was followed by catcher's interference to allow Jordan Winawer to reach. After a force out at second, Thanopoulos induced a ground ball out to bring in Mark Fraser from third.
The Lions answered swiftly in the top of the third. Savage hit a pop up that was dropped by the Big Red third baseman and stole second base. Randell Kanemaru doubled off the bottom of the wall in center to plate Savage for the second time in the game to restore the lead, 2-1.
Cornell put the first two batters on in the bottom of the third and extra base hits by Dale Wickham and Mark Fraser gave the Big Red a 4-2 lead after three innings of play.
Cole Rutherford went deep in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to three, but Lane Robinette cut the deficit to 5-3 after an RBI groundout in the sixth. However, the Big Red added four insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to put things away.

Kyle Bartelman tripled to bring in Logan Boyher to even things up and he scored the go-ahead run after a sac fly from John Kinne. Lane Robinette made it 3-1 with a solo jack to leftfield and Columbia tacked on three more in the frame to make it a five-run ballgame.
With runners on the corners, a wild pitch brought in Savage followed by knocks from Kanemaru and Maguire.
Cornell scored twice in the bottom of the second to pull within 6-3 before the Lions put a four-spot on the board in the third.
Savage, Kanemaru and Maguire all registered extra-base hits in the frame to drive in runs and give Columbia a 10-3 advantage. Savage would later add a solo homer in the fifth to push the lead to eight.
Ahead 11-4 in the ninth, Columbia used a two-run double from Robb Paller and a sac fly from Kanemaru to cap the scoring.
Savage finished the nightcap 3-for-5 with four runs scored and a pair of RBI. Maguire was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Kanemaru pitched in four RBI and was 2-for-5.
