
Wade Clocks School Record 800m Run

NEW YORK - Brittney Wade broke the school record in the 800m run, while numerous season and career best times were achieved this weekend for the Columbia track & field teams.
At the New Balance Twilight Meet hosted by Bentley University, Wade crossed the line in 2:06.17, almost a half of a second better than the school record of 2:06.64 from Trina Bills in 2014. The time for the Ivy League Champion in the half-mile was an improvement on her previous best of 2:07.78.
The men's team came away with two of the top three times in the 800m run at the event, behind rookies Sam Ritz and Josiah Langstaff. Ritz took the tape in 1:51.01, with Langstaff going 1:52.43 for third.
In the 1500m run, the Columbia men took second and third. Robert Napolitano clocked a season best 3:44.33 in the event for second, while Benjamin Ritz claimed third in 3:46.31.
Two of the three days at the IC4A/ECAC Championships have been completed, as the finals are scheduled for Sunday in Princeton.
Two women went on to compete in the 400m run final, after they both achieved career best times. Akua Obeng-Akrofi had the fourth best time in the prelims at 53.95, while Jaycee Parker was fifth in 54.28. Obeng-Akrofi finished second in the final at 54.27 while Parker was fifth in 54.80.
Erin Melly put forth a career best effort in the 3K Steeplechase at 10:32.83, while Devon Towell did the same in the 800m run at 2:10.90.
The men picked up a first place finish from Brian Zabilski in the 5K run. A week after taking second on the same track during the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, Zabilski went 14:11.60, which was a personal best at the distance.
Corey Hammond was a finalist in the 400m hurdles after a season best 52.87 in the prelims. The senior was .03 off of his personal best of 52.84, and took the seventh fastest time into the final, where he finished fifth in 53.04.
