Lions Capture Six Titles at Columbia Women's Tennis Invitational

Lions claim four singles titles (Akanksha Bhan, Andrea Kevakian, Paulina Ferrari and Caite Sullivan) and two doubles championships (Kerr/Hu and Wan/Kevakian) in successful three-day season-opening weekend.
NEW YORK—The Columbia women's tennis team won six total (individual and doubles) championships Sunday during the final day of the three-day 2018 Columbia Invitational held this weekend at Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
Columba won four singles titles and two doubles championships. In singles, first-year Akanksha Bhan claimed the Manhattan Draw title with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Lexi Milonovich, senior Andrea Kevakian won a 7-6 (4), 6-4 decision over teammate and first-year Yekaterina Alferova in the Queens Draw, sophomore Paulina Ferrari registered a 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 championship win over teammate/senior Sarah Hu in the Bronx Draw and first-year Caitie Sullivan won a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 match over LIU Brooklyn's Malin Leysen in the Staten Island Draw. Sophomore Jennifer Kerr lost a 6-4, 7-5 decision to St. John's Jessica Livianu in the Manhattan bracket title match.
In doubles, Kerr and Hu won an 8-7 (6) decision over teammates Bhan and Sakar in the Doubles A bracket and sophomore Christie Wan and Kevakian defeated teammates Ferrari and Alferova 8-4 in the Doubles B title match. In the Doubles C title match, senior Renee Ren and Sullivan lost a hard-fought 8-7 (4) match to LIU-Brooklyn's Grigoryan and Leysen.
Columbia hosted five teams over weekend—Fordham, Harvard, Hofstra, LIU-Brooklyn and St. John's—with competition running Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All matches took place at Dick Savitt Tennis Center, located at Columbia's Baker Athletic Complex.
