Sofia Camacho Takes Gold, No. 24 Lion Women Finish Third At Mets

Sophomore Sofia Camacho took first place at Mets as the No. 24 Columbia Cross Country Women finished third overall.

BRONX, N.Y. – It took a late kick and a photo finish but sophomore Sofia Camacho Ferral crossed the finish line first, with only a .5 second gap between herself and second place, to take gold in the 5K at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships as the No. 24 Columbia Cross Country women finished third overall on Friday morning at Van Cortlandt Park.

Camacho, running the first cross country race of her career, finished with a time of 18:19.1, needing a late kick down the stretch to catch and pass Olympia Martin (Rutgers) who finished in 18:19.5, to finish first in the race. Sophomore Emily Rooney, who finished 10th overall, completed the race with a personal best time of 19:21.7 to give the Lions a pair of top 10 finishers.

Rounding out the top 20 for Columbia was sophomore Delaney Sanacore, who finished 12th with a PR time of 19:26.0 and senior Hana Sun, who crossed 19th with a time of 19:52.4.
