Rowing Programs And Alumni Have Solid Weekend At The 55th Head Of The Charles

Columbia's Men and Women Rowing programs had success on the water at the 55th Head Of The Charles, while the Lion Alumni raced to solid results over the weekend.

BOSTON – Columbia Rowing had themselves a solid weekend at the 55th Head of the Charles, which was competed on the Charles River from Oct. 19-20, with the women's team posting a fourth-place finish in the Championship Fours event, the heavyweight squad finishing seventh in a loaded Championship Doubles race and the lightweights finishing third and fourth in the Championship Fours.

On the alumni side of things, the Senior Masters Doubles boat of Greg Klingsporn '99LAW and Geoff Klingsporn '92CC, finished second overall in the Men's Senior Masters 2x with a time of 18:30.216 to give the Lion alumni their best finish of the weekend.  Columbia's alumni secured one other top 10 finish, with Saiya Remmler '85CC racing the Women's Grand Master Singles, finishing ninth with a time of 23:01.875.

The women's squad sent only one boat to the event, with Astrid Walker-Stewart, Sabina Maurer, Hailey Todoroff, Liza Ray and Tteja Senthilnathan (COX) taking to the water in the Championship Fours race, and they ran a solid race, finishing fourth, with a time of 17:49.996.  The lightweight squad sent two boats of four to the event as well, with Tucker Wurtmann, Aidan Mahaffey, Curtis Alter and John Gallagher coxswained by Dion Ariestanto in the 4A boat and the 4B boat, coxswained by Simon Osak, consisting of John Robison, Travis Kennedy III, Torrance Smith and Alexandros Zisimidis.

The 4A boat, consisting of only first years, crossed just ahead of Columbia's 4B boat, in third place, with a time of 16:10.935 while the 4B boat came across in fourth with a time of 16:12.618.

On the heavyweight side, the Championship Doubles, with only Columbia and three other boats out of a field of 18 fielding collegiate level talent, finished seventh with a time of 17:25.619, as that boat was manned by Tom Mortimer and Neil Kennedy.  While in the Club Ones, Kyle Fram rowed a solid race, finishing 12th with a time of 19:37.234 in the only race featuring a solo Lion over the weekend.
