ICY GREENS: Due to the original location of the race, Audubon Golf Course, being deemed by the NCAA Track & Field and Cross Country Committee to be too dangerous and icy, the race was moved on Thursday afternoon to a road course on the campus of hosting Buffalo.
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Besides entering the race as the three-time Ivy League Heps Champions, the No. 21 Lion women come in as the Northeastern Regional defending champions, having won the region in 2018 for the first time since 2002, and they enter the race as the No. 1 team in the Northeastern Region. Following a second-place finish from senior Katie Wasserman and an eighth-place finish from junior Allie Hays at the Heps, the Lions enter the race in solid form as they look to defend their title.
Among the runners that the Lions are sending to Buffalo, both Wasserman and Hays ran at the 2018 race, with Wasserman finishing eighth and Hays coming in 13th to help power the Lions to the championship.
MEN LOOK TO BUILD: The Lion men enter the race having finished eighth in the 2018 Northeast Regional, but they do come in having two strong performers leading the way following the Heps, with senior Kenny Vasbinder coming in as the individual Heps winner and first-year Tyler Berg's fourth place finish at the Heps being the best finish by a first-year in Columbia history. Overall the Lions enter the race sitting at No. 6 in the Northeaster Regional following their strong finish at Heps giving them a slight bump in the rankings.
Columbia does have an experienced lineup when considering the runners, they will be sending, with Vasbinder and juniors Dominic Dyer and David Vorbach having run for the Lions in the 2018 regional.
