Ikwuazom And Cheng Earn All-Ivy Selections

Senior Chichi Ikwuazom was named unanimous First Team All-Ivy League, while junior Audrey Cheng earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy League.

PRINCETON, N.J. – For the third time in her career, Columbia Volleyball senior Chichi Ikwuazom has been named First Team All-Ivy League, while junior Audrey Cheng earned All-Ivy League Honorable Mention as a part of the 2019 All-Ivy League postseason awards as announced by the Ivy League, today, Thursday, Nov. 21.

The first team nod, while being Ikwuazom's third of her career, gives the Lions' their first, first team nod since 2017, when both Ikwuazom and Amja Malesevic earned the award.  Ikwuazom's first team selection was unanimous, which for Ikwuazom is the first unanimous selection of her career, the first Lion since Malesevic in 2017 and the fifth time in program history that a student-athlete earned a unanimous first team selection.

As for Cheng, the honorable mention is the first Ivy League award of her career, and it comes off the heels of a solid season for the Lion setter.  Cheng becomes the first Lion to earn All-Ivy Honorable Mention since 2011 when Savannah Fletcher received the award.

QUEEN CHICHI: During the 2019 season, Ikwuazom was unstoppable, finishing with 495 total kills, 106 total blocks, a .438 hitting percentage, 559.5 points, 5.32 kills per set, 6.02 points per set and played and started all 24 matches during the season.  Of course, those historic numbers meant that Ikwuazom put her name in the record books, finishing with the most kills in a single season in Columbia history and her 495 kills placed her fifth on the all-time Ivy League single season kills list.

Ikwuazom's numbers were consistent throughout 2019, and she was named Ivy League Player of the Week a league-high five times and she earned a Sports Impact/AVCA National Player of the Week award during the week of Sept. 24, following an 81-kill three match week that saw the Lions win three straight.

In the Ivy League, when considering all 24 matches, Ikwuazom finishes ranked first in the league in hitting percentage, total kills, kills per set, total points, points per set and she is third in total blocks and blocks per set.  In Ivy League only contests, Ikwuazom racked up 260 kills, 4.91 kills per set, a .399 hitting percentage, 73 total blocks, 1.38 blocks per set, 299.5 total points and she averages 5.65 points per set.  That ranks her first in total kills, kills per set, total points, points per set, total points, points per set, total blocks and blocks per set while finishing third in total blocks and blocks per set when focusing on Ivy League only contests.

SETTING THE LIONS: Cheng was a big part of Ikwuazom's record setting season, and she made waves throughout the Ivy League standings and the Lion record books herself.  Cheng finished the season with 873 total assists, 9.59 assists per set and had 102 total kills while hitting .267 with a 1.12 kills per set average.

In the Ivy League, when looking at all 24 matches, which Cheng played in, the Lion setter finished second in the league in total assists and third in assists per set.  If you broke it down to just Ivy League matches, Cheng again was a force, finishing with 493 total assists and a 9.67 assist per set average, which when looking at the Ivy League standings places her second in total assists and third in assists per set.

The Columbia record books, following the 2019 season, now have Cheng's name sitting promptly near the top in assists as her 873 total assists places her third on the all-time single season assists list and she finished the season with 2,254 career assists, which places her third on the all-time career assists list as she enters her 2020 senior season.
