Columbia Track & Field locked up eight first place finishes in the 2019-20 season opener.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The 2019-20 Indoor Track & Field season got off to a roaring start for Columbia Track & Field as the Lions took eight first place finishes, with first-year Tessa Green (60m), sophomores Lauren Micham (60m H), Jackie Patterson (1,000m) and junior Terri Turner (One-Mile) all locking up wins for the women and sophomore Brodie Holmes (60m) along with juniors Jackson Storey (1,000m), Noah Johnson (Shot Put) and Jack Pihlkar (Weight Throw) finishing first for the Lion men in a solid first day of the 2019-20 season at the Metro Season Opener on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
HOW THE MEN FINISHED (FIELD EVENTS): Columbia's men took part in two field events, and the Lions dominated both the shot put and the weight throw, with Pihlkar tossing a first place mark of 59-10.5/18.25m in the weight throw to finish first, his third first place finish in the weight throw in his career. But Pihlkar was not alone at the top, as the Lions finished one, two and three in the event as senior Hunter Hasley recorded a mark of 53-2.25/16.21m to finish second and Johnson, who finished first in the shot put, finished third with a mark of 49-10.5/15.20m to give Columbia the top three spots in the weight throw.
