The rising senior is taking part in the event for the second time in three years.
PRAGUE, Czech Republic – Rising senior Dan Harrington of Columbia baseball is set to begin competition with the German U23 team at the 2019 European Championships Wednesday, August 7. Germany begins pool play Wednesday against France followed by matchups with Great Britain Thursday and the Netherlands Friday. Medal rounds will go from August 10-11.
Harrington, who was born in Kaiserslautern, moved to California at age 12 and holds dual citizenship. Two years ago, the right-hander earned a spot U23 European Championships and has remained in touch with the National Team's coaching staff to remain on the national team's radar.
"The support I've received from the coaching staff at Columbia and all of my teammates has been tremendous," Harrington said. "My coaches are really happy for me and fully supportive of me going out and playing for team Germany. The same goes for all my teammates, and it's really cool getting to share our own unique summer baseball experiences with each other."
In 2019, Harrington emerged as a go-to reliever for the Lions and led the squad with 18 appearances and three saves. He did not allow a run in 12 of his final 15 appearances on the year and finished with 22 strikeouts over 26.2 innings of work.
Following the event, Harrington will head to Japan for a training camp from August 20-September 1 to earn a spot on the senior national team for the Olympic Qualifiers.
