
Ivy Opener, Trip to Quinnipiac On Deck for Lions

Columbia welcomes Brown to the Big Apple for a Friday night showdown before at Sunday matchup against the Bobcats.

NEWS/NOTES
COLUMBIA'S STATUS
• The Lions look bounce back from a pair of close losses last weekend against Fairfield. They begin their Ivy League schedule with a game against Brown on Friday, and then take on Quinnipiac on Sunday.
• Columbia has won 10 of its last 11 Ivy League openers and is 3-1 under Caroline Nelson-Nichols. The Lions are 11-11 all-time in Ancient Eight debuts.
• Goalkeeper Alexa Conomikes was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. She allowed just three goals on the weekend, racking up seven saves.
• Jennifer Trieschman is tied for second in the Ivy League with four goals on the year.
BROWN'S STATUS
• The Bears split two games last week, falling to No. 20 Albany, 6-0, before bouncing back against Hofstra in a 3-0 win.
• Brown's two wins this season have both come on shutouts.
• Gina Openshaw leads the Bears with three goals on the year.
QUINNIPIAC'S STATUS
• The Bobcats fell to No. 4 UConn, 6-0, and topped Vermont, 1-0, last weekend in two home contests.
• Quinnipiac is averaging one goal a game their first seven matches this season.
• Blanka Strubbe paces the squad with four goals.
INSIDE THE SERIES - BROWN
The Lions own the edge over the Bears with a 12-10 record. Columbia has won their last two matches in the series and are 11-1 in their last 12 games against Brown. Last season, Columbia earned a 4-2 victory in a game which it never trailed.
INSIDE THE SERIES - QUINNIPIAC
Sunday will be the ninth time the Lions have faced the Bobcats, with the all-time series being tied at four games a piece. Quinnipiac has beaten Columbia in the last two meetings, including a 3-2 victory on Aug. 31, 2018.
TAKING ON THE BEST
Four of Columbia's first six opponents have been ranked at some point this season in the NFHCA Top-25 Poll. The Lions took are 2-2 in those contests, falling to No. 8 Iowa, 3-1, on Sept. 8 and to current No. 23 Fairfield, 1-0, on Sept. 20. Looking ahead, Columbia will have four more cracks at teams currently in the top-25 when they face UAlbany (Oct. 6), Princeton (Oct. 12), Monmouth (Oct. 20) and Harvard (Nov. 18).
